Queen Zulu 2020
The Zulu coronation ball is the largest Mardi Gras ball serving the African American community in New Orleans. Taken place during the carnival season, this tradition is massive and important for the New Orleans culture. In 2020, Amaya was appointed to create queen Zulu attendees’ costume gowns for the ball. She created nine gowns for the ladies in addition to souring the fabric/materials, draping each customized pattern, and embellishing appliques to complete the design for the costumes.
